Why we celebrate Christmas Day?
Story Behind Christmas
have a look by #freshclips .
Christmas is an festival celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.
The unifying factor is the historical fact that Jesus was born, c. 4 BC.
The angel who appeared to the shepherds the night of Jesus’ birth said, “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
angel said, “A Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Jesus is the Savior who delivers us from sin and death
He is the human
Messiah (or Christ) who fulfills the Law and the Prophets, showing that God is faithful
the Almighty has taken on human flesh; God and man have been fused together in an indivisible, eternal bond; God is truly with us
The name 'Christmas' comes from the Mass of Christ (or Jesus).
A Mass service (called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then came back to life.
The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336 A.D., during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine (he was the first Christian Roman Emperor).
A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on the 25th
Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.
