 Gudhi Padwa is celebrated as New Year's Day for Marathi (Hindu) people. 


Gudi Padwa is celebrated on the first day of the Indian month of CHAITA according to the lunar calendar.

This is the day on which Brahma created the world.

Gudhi symbolizes Lord Rama’s victory  after defeating Ravana and happiness on returning to Ayodhya.

Shivaji Maharaj started the Gudi Padwa celebrations after his victory.

The tradition of raising the Gudi was initiated by Shivaji

Gudhi is believed that good wins over evil.

invite prosperity and good luck into the house

Gudi is Bright green or yellow cloth adorned with brocade (zari) tied to the tip of a long bamboo over which gaathi (sugar crystals), neem leaves and a twig of mango leaves and a garland of red flowers is tied.

And hoisted upside down at the entrance of the Maharashtrain households.

Maharashtrian women wear a kashta or a nauvari.

Men wear a kurta pyjama and sport a saffron or red turban.

Gudi Padwa is also considered as the harvest festival.

Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh, it is celebrated as Ugadi.

while Sindhis celebrate is as Cheti Chand.
